I've officially completed my 5th week of nursing school. Things have gotten a little more intense since my last post, but nothing too bad yet. Luckily, 4th week was nothing! The previous students sure did scare me about it. My study habits have gone to the wayside so I'm working on getting back to a good schedule. I'm still doing really well but I know if I lose focus, it will all go downhill very quickly. Problem is, I've never been the person to sit and study all day. In fact, I'm writing this post instead of working on a study guide. Technically, I'm taking a break from it since I was working on it earlier, but still.
My clinicals at the Mental Health facility have been amazing. I love interacting with patients, learning how to decipher the illusive charts, and watch the nurses do their thing. At the moment, I don't think mental health nursing is my path, but you never know.
As for the rest of my life...
January was a month of birthdays. Junior (my cousin's son... eldest of the grandkids) turned 14. My grandpa turned 77. I can't believe how quickly time flies.
I'm still working. Two days a week - 3 hours on Wednesdays and 4 hours on Fridays. It's great because I'm able to study at work and, if it's busy and I can't study, it's still only a few hours and acts as a good study break. It's all part of my goal to keep my life as balanced as possible. I'm pretty sure I'd go crazy if I focused only on school.
I'm still taking my Spanish class through the Davis Adult School. I absolutely love it. So far, I'm doing really well. Though my vocabulary isn't vast, I'm able to translate the sentences they provide us from English into Spanish. Baby steps. I've got a bit of time until I'm in Panamá and need to actually use my Spanish.
On that note... I've purchased my ticket to Panamá this August! I'll be there from Monday, August 16th until Wednesday, August 25th. Ron, our old roomie, will be going with me. Dave and I are hoping his brother, Greg, is also able to come at this time. But he may go when their parents go in July. We'll see. When there, we're gonna take a trip to San Blas. I hear it's absolutely gorgeous there. We're planning on staying at a home hostel type thing where it's around $25 per day for food, lodging, and travel to the multiple islands in the area. I'm so excited!!!
Oh! Coolest thing ever. We recently had a couple from Panamá move into our complex at work. I've befriended the wife and she's agreed to help me practice my Spanish AND... and here's the best part... are you ready? She's gonna teach me how to make the amazingly declicious hojaldras that I've been craving ever since I left Panamá. I can't wait!
Last Saturday was the SF Motocross race. It was just me and dad and I couldn't have been happier. It was nice to just chill out, not have to worry about school or friends, and just focus on the race. The races themselves weren't as exciting as years past but they still provided great entertainment. I loooove motocross and hope I'll be able to attend the finals in Vegas this year. If I can't, it'll be the first year time in the past 8 years that I'm gonna miss it. All depends on that darned thing called school though.
Other than that, I've just been hanging out with my friends trying to make sure I keep in touch with them. Tomorrow is the Super Bowl (GO SAINTS!!!!). I'll be over at a friend's house to watch the game.
Only 65 days until Dave is in Davis!!!!
