swords and champagne.

Last night, a few of us went to Napa to hang out with Kristie while she watched a friend's house. It was an absolute blast. Before I get into the details, let me update you on my interview for Samuel Merritt.

I arrived at the campus about a half hour before my interview. I sat in my car with butterflies milling about my stomach. I eventually called my mom to get my mind off of how nervous I was. She definitely helped, but I couldn't shake how scared I was. I finally decided to get out of my car and head towards the building and guess what happens... I walk into a spider web! I huge one at that. I immediately ran to the nearest car and started picking spider webs out of my hair. Before I got to the building, I ran into a few women sitting outside and asked them to help me get any stray webs out. Then I went in. When I walked in, I saw two other people talking. One was a girl who is finishing up her undergrad at Sac State, the other was a guy who is doing this as a second career. I'm guessing he is in his early thirties. We started talking thinking it would be a group interview and hoping more people wouldn't show up. Then the school's counselor walked out and informed us that it would be individual interviews. Upon hearing that, my nerves were instantly calmed; I no longer felt an ounce of nervousness. My interviewer ended up being the program's director. I feel really fortunate for this fact because it means the person who makes the final admission decisions knows who I am directly. I'm hoping I made a really good impression on her. One question she asked was simply what the role of a Case Manager is. I told her that it truly depends on the hospital because each place has their own set of expectations for their CM. She was impressed by this saying that she's glad I know that its such a versatile role. After my interview, I e-mailed both her and the counselor thanking them. The counselor e-mailed me back saying that the director enjoyed meeting with me. I'm taking that as a good sign!! Now I just have to wait till November to find out whether or not I got the spot. Keep your fingers crossed for me these next few months!

Now to Napa!! We (Tam, Kirsten and myself) drove to Napa to meet up with Kristie. She's been housesitting for her friends Emma and Wes while they're on vacation in Maine. They have this gorgeous home and yes, they knew we were gonna be there. When we arrived, Kristie had wine and appetizers awaiting. Yum! Then we got to the good part. All of a sudden, Kristie breaks out Emma's sword and says we should use it to open champagne bottles. I've seen it done before but had never done it myself. I was nervous because I didn't want to mess up but boy was it fun! Basically what you do is find the vertical line on the bottle (it's the weakest point since it's where the bottle halves were joined), slide the sword up in one swift motion and boom! You've popped the top off. Afterward, we ate a delicious dinner that Kristie prepared. It consisted of lasagne, pesto bread and veggies. Mmmmm. We made a quick jaunt downtown to find the receptionist from Kristie's work as she was visiting town but we couldn't find her. The rest of the night was spent enjoying everyones company back at the house. At the end of the night, I noticed that they have an attic with stairs, so I pulled it down and explored a bit. Yes, it was dark so I couldn't see a thing but it was still cool. I've only ever been in the attic at my parents' home but that hasn't been for years! Below are some pictures and a video from the night.
